The Spirited Earth

Dance, myth and ritual from South Asia to the South Pacific.
1984-1989

Exhibited and published extensively worldwide, The Spirited Earth is a portrayal or secular and sacred dance, drama, ritual expressions pertaining to tribal, folk and classical traditions of the indigenous people of Indonesia, Kalimantan, Thailand, Nepal, India, New Zealand, Australia, The Solomon Islands, Vanuatu.

The subtle philosophic intention of the essay is to offer hope/healing through the re-arrangement (via chapter structure) of the ‘evolutionary trajectory’ of humankind’s religious consciousness; an evolution which has alienated humanity from nature.

Published by Rizzoli International New York in 1990.
Foreign editions published by Arthaud - France and Metamorphosis Verlag - Germany.
